Growing up in Houston, Alan started his sales career in the computer time-sharing/remote computer services industry. He was transferred to N. California in 1977 and in 1983 met Larry Ellison who had started Relational Software, Inc., which later became Oracle Corporation. As a Sr. Sales Director at Oracle he was the responsible sales manager for the San Francisco Bay Area and Northwest sales territories opening offices in Seattle, Portland, Denver and Minneapolis. In 1989 he started the State Government Industry vertical sales group. In 1990 he joined Inference Corporation as V.P. of North America Sales. Inference was a leading provider of intelligent solutions for problem identification and resolution in the emerging call center “help desk” software industry. Inference had a successful IPO in 1995. In 1996 he joined the newly formed JavaSoft division of Sun Microsystems as V.P. of World Wide Sales. He retired in 2001, took an extended vacation in Kauai and since then has been doing volunteer work with a variety of non-profits living in S. Korea, Zambia, and Liberia.
Alan has been married to June for 37 years and has 3 children, 19,18, and 15. He received his B.S. in Math from the University of Houston. He’s excited about being in Austin and working as a mentor with Capital Factory companies in any and all areas of sales.
