Derek Keller is a Principal at Techstars Ventures and also a Principal at Highway 12 Ventures. Highway 12 is an early-stage venture fund with $100M under management, where he has been investing since 2009, primarily in web and mobile verticals. He currently serves on the board of Goomzee and is a board observer at Lendio. In addition to his investing role, Derek has worked day-to-day for extended quarters in various operating roles within the fund’s portfolio, ranging from head of product to finance, and most recently as CFO at Lendio.
Prior to joining Highway 12, he was in San Francisco with the $1B private equity fund Huntsman Gay. He also spent two years prior as a Senior Associate with the University Venture Fund based in Salt Lake City, where he led investments in web and financial services, and was fortunate to see portfolio company Omniture go public and later sell to Adobe for $1.8B.
As a vc by day, and coding geek by night, he continues to straddle the fence as both an investor and an entrepreneur, and enjoys weaving both together as an active mentor at Techstars and closely advising a handful of local startups.
Although he spends the majority of his time recovering from his latest spill on the mountain, he enjoys getting lost with his camera and the life of a marginal musician. Derek graduated with a BS in Finance from Brigham Young University.
