THE CENTER OF GRAVITY FOR ENTREPRENEURS IN TEXAS
Eric Gould Bear
Partner
Eric Bear is a classically-trained film actor known for his meme-generating role in “Annie Hall.” As a kinesthetic artist, he specializes in primate motion capture and authentic, grounded expression. Prior to his return to filmmaking, Bear was a tech entrepreneur known for creating award-winning interactive media. Communication Arts described him as “one of the most thoughtful and provocative interface and interaction designers working in the field.”
“The Matrix” popularized his 1994 invention of seamless video expansion by enabling DVD viewers to “follow the white rabbit” to access behind the scenes footage. Other of his 100+ hardware and software patents include body-based solutions to motion sickness in virtual reality. His technologies have been licensed by all major motion picture studios in the USA and top consumer electronics companies in the world; with products based on his inventions in use every day by millions of people and thousands of companies.
Bear has been a Partner with Capital Factory since 2013 — rolling up his sleeves and diving in deep with early-stage startups including Aceable, Curb, Kenguru, SubjectMatter, Weeva and others. He’s a former university professor (UT Austin Dept. of Radio-TV-Film and San Francisco State University), Fortune 500 executive (Microsoft and Yahoo!), and founder of MONKEYmedia, Chief Experience Officer and HyperWatt Productions. Bear is a lifetime member of the Association for Computing Machinery and Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, and a member of the Austin Intellectual Property Law Association.
