As the Executive Director of Innovation and Technology Commercialization at Ascension/Seton, Mike leads the capture, analysis, and commercialization of Seton owned intellectual property. He routinely collaborates with intrapreneurs, entrepreneurs, and the startup community to pilot and evaluate new technology aligning with overall strategy and customer/market needs to solve pressing healthcare problems. Through human centered design and innovation challenges Mike gains deep insights about customers and associates experience driving new concepts, products and services.
Previously he was the Director of Research at Austin Ventures, a $3.9B venture capital firm in the Texas capital city, Mike performed extensive due diligence on potential portfolio investments or acquisitions with an emphasis on evaluating start-up enterprises in the business services, social media, internet, and mobile media industries.
Prior to joining Austin Ventures, Mike served in AT&T’s Knowledge Ventures group where he led multiple efforts to monetize intellectual property from AT&T Labs through licensing, joint venture, and spin‐out initiatives. He helped deliver over $100M in associated revenue to the corporation in five years.
He also worked in corporate strategy roles for both HP in Linux and Dell in servers and storage. Mike holds an MBA from Western Illinois University and a BS in Marketing and Business Administration from Illinois State University. He currently has two granted patents.
Mike is an advisory board member for the University of Texas School of Information and Catholic Charities of Central Texas. When not working the “day job” Mike enjoys engaging with entrepreneurs, playing with his daughter and sipping down a good cup of coffee.
