Luis Berga is one of the organizers for the Austin Music Tech Meetup (@ATXMusicTech), along with Alex Mitchell. The Austin Music Tech Meetup group brings together entrepreneurs, developers, investors, service firms, music industry folks and anyone with a passion for tech and music. They want people to come in and collaborate and support each other in building great music tech companies!
Why did you begin organizing this Meetup?
I moved to Austin in early 2014 and wanted to get involved with 2 things: music and startups. As I was researching groups to get involved with, I was surprised I couldn’t find any groups for music tech so I decided I would start one with the help of my friend Alex Mitchell and have been pleasantly surprised since that there are lots of people out there with the same passion that we have.
I’m actually working on my own music tech startup called Music Meets Video in weeknights and weekends and during the day I work for an early stage VC firm called StartupRunner.
What are you looking forward to most in the 2015 Austin tech and startup scene?
I’m really excited to see what impact the Dell Medical School has on healthcare related startups in Austin. Now that Austin Ventures has officially renounced early stage investing, I’m excited to see who is going to be the new go to VC firm in town.
What do you love about hosting at Capital Factory?
I love how open and willing Capital Factory is to essentially take a chance on an interesting meetup idea. They provide instant legitimacy and support to the meetups which is super helpful to get something off the ground.
Do you attend any other Meetups besides your own?
Yes, I go to the Austin Tech Breakfast, Co-Founders Wanted and then we have a monthly meetup for Techstars alum which I go to as well.
What do you love about living in Austin?
The music, the startups, the people, and the brisket.
