Anil Shetty, MD
An inventive physician scientist and entrepreneur, with over 20 years of experience in academia and medical device industry (startups, large companies). He is passionate about disruptive technology and commercialization of innovative solutions for healthcare industry. He is a big believer in purpose driven innovation. He has vast experience in multiple sectors: Medical Affairs, preclinical /clinical strategy, product development, clinical operations, business development, regulatory planning, KOL network.
He was a member of the executive team at Visualase, which led the Houston based medical startup to a $ 110 million acquisition by Medtronic in 5 years. He led the development of applications for epilepsy, spinal tumors, radiation necrosis and prostate tumors which have a combined market size of $ 2.25 billion. Later, he developed a network of clinics, offering high-resolution MRI, targeted biopsy and focal therapy for prostate cancer. Through his company – Imagnia Healthcare, he is involved in the commercialization of technology in diverse areas as nanomedicine, diagnostic oncology platforms and AI in healthcare.
He supports early-stage health care startups as an investor with the TiE group (The Indus Entrepreneurs) and Cannon Network. He volunteers his time in the local startup ecosystem: judge & mentor of Rice Business Plan competition, Mass Challenge judge, TMCx advisor, mentor for UT Venture Mentoring Services and Capital Factory.
He has a fellowship from MD Anderson Cancer Center and Biomedical Engineering degree from Texas A&M. He has co-authored 30 + peer-reviewed publications in the field of oncology, radiology, neurology, neurosurgery, drug delivery and nanotechnology and is a reviewer for many journals.
