Sal Uglietta is an accomplished consumer healthcare and biotech leader with deep experience in pharmaceuticals, companion animal health, health insurance and provider systems. He currently is CEO of Med Partners Consulting, providing healthcare/biotech strategy, pipeline, market entry and commercialization services to pharma and payer clients (Novartis, J&J, Medco Health Solutions, CVS and Shire Pharmaceuticals).
In June 2008, Sal was appointed to the Board of Directors of Velcera, Inc.–a start-up in the companion animal health space. As an investor and marketing SME, he helped guide Velcera to a successful launch of PETARMOR flea and tick treatment in 2011.
In 2003, he joined Gevity HR, a Nasdaq traded HR outsourcer and PEO, as head of insurance and benefits. Sal eventually assumed sales and marketing responsibility and restructured before the business was acquired by Trinet.
In 1995, Sal went to Aetna to run the largest of the health insurer’s regions. In that capacity, he had comprehensive responsibility for 24 health plans from Pennsylvania through New England. He concurrently served as President of INTELIHEALTH, Aetna and Harvard Medical School’s web-based health information portal. In 1998 he stepped up to be Aetna’s Chief Marketing Officer and began the company’s transformation to consumer-driven healthcare.
Sal served from 1977-1995 as an operating executive with Johnson & Johnson in the US and Europe. He was Product Director and later served as Director of International OTCs and led the expansion into the EU. He was commercial head of the J&J-Merck joint venture that launched Pepcid in the non-prescription market to become the leading heartburn brand.
He has an undergraduate degree from Brandeis University and an MBA in Marketing from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business. Sal and his wife Pamela relocated to Austin in 2012.
