Before you arrive, please take 5 minutes to read this and cover the basics: 10 Steps to Plug Into the Austin Tech Startup Scene.
This month we are featuring Nick Spiller, Senior Venture Associate, and Harlan Beverly, VP of Engineering at Beneplace.
Nick Spiller is on the Grand Mission to help people reconnect with real world through unique, outdoor experiences. He also nurtures a global co-investor community for Capital Factory; the most active seed stage VC in Texas since 2014. The first chapter of Nick’s startup journey was at The University of Texas at Austin where he founded the Longhorn Entrepreneurship Agency. He then went on to be a Market Launcher for Favor Deliver (acq. HEB). As an alumni of UT Austin, he helped create the first startup fund on-campus called Genesis which gives students the opportunity to invest like venture capitalists in other student startups.
Harlan Beverly is a 4-time CEO and 3-time startup founder in the consumer technology space. He is currently the CEO of Free Beer AI, Inc, a consumer artificial intelligence startup in Austin, Texas. Previously, Harlan was a professor at The University of Texas at Austin in entrepreneurship and helped run the Texas Venture Labs. Harlan specializes in growth marketing and fundraising for consumer, health and gaming type companies. Harlan has founded and sold two prior consumer oriented (B2C) startups: Bigfoot Networks, Inc. and Karmaback, Inc., and was also CEO of (and eventually sold) Key Ingredient, Inc. Harlan is not actively investing, but has experience as both an angel and venture investor- so he can provide contacts and advice about reaching investors. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Ohio Northern University, M.B.A. from UT Austin and his Ph.D. in Business from Oklahoma State.
